IS Finder

International Reference Center for Prokaryotic Insertion Sequences (IS), ISfinder, is a public database ( and a research tool which performs an important service for the microbiology community. ISs are small mobile genetic elements (MGE) which essentially code for the functions necessary to their transposition. Transposases (proteins involved in IS transposition) are one of the two the most represented proteins in genomes.

In addition to the database, the site provides two specific tools for the scientific community: ISbrowser, for visualization of complete and partial IS in expertly annotated prokaryotic genomes; and ISsaga, a semi-automatic tool for genomic IS annotation.
